What is Irabu Bridge?

The 3,540-meter-long marine bridge connecting Miyako Island and Irabu Island in Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, opened on January 31, 2015, and is the longest bridge in Japan without tolls.

Features

"Miyako blue" ocean drive

The five-minute drive across the straight bridge over the crystal-clear Miyako blue ocean is a highlight of sightseeing in Miyakojima. The spectacular view on both sides of the bridge will make you squeal with delight.

Mountainous structure in the center

The central part of the bridge is designed to be high enough to allow ships to pass under it. The view that opens up as you climb the hill is as exhilarating as a roller coaster ride.

Sunset Spot

In the evening, the setting sun over the bridge and the silhouette of the bridge reflected on the sea surface create a fantastic sight.

Photo Spot

Makiyama Observatory

The observatory is located on the Irabu Island side. It offers a bird's eye view of the bridge and is a popular spot for photographing the entire view of the Irabu Bridge.

Tulliver Beach

This beach is located near the starting point on the Miyako Island side. It is the best location to view the bridge from the front and is ideal for sunset photography.

• Approx. 15 min. by car from Miyako Airport
• About 10 min. by car from Hirara City
• Car rental or cab is always required (bus routes are available)

Points of interest when visiting

• Parking is prohibited on the bridge, so take pictures at nearby observation spots.
• Obey the speed limit and drive safely to enjoy the scenery.
• You can also enjoy the color change of the sea depending on the time of the day (forward light in the morning and sunset in the afternoon are recommended).

Nearby Spots

There are many places of interest on Irabu Island and Shimoji Island across the bridge, including the spectacular beaches "Nakanoshima Beach" and "Watariguchi no Hama", Kuma no Hama, and Hunausagibanata.
