What is Nilai and Kanai bridges?

The Nirai and Kanai bridges are a series of two bridges with a total length of 660 meters and a height difference of 80 meters located in Chinen, Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa's main island. The bridges descend in a wide curve from Prefectural Road 86 (in the direction of Tsukishiro) to National Road 331, and are called the Kanai Bridge on the ocean side and the Nirai Bridge on the mountain side. Nirai Kanai" means an ideal world beyond the sea in Ryukyuan mythology.

Spectacular view from the observation deck

From the observation deck at the top of the bridge (above the tunnel), you can see the cobalt blue Pacific Ocean below, Cape Chinen, and the island of Kutaka, which is called "God's Island. It is one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Okinawa.

Driving Spot

The exhilaration of descending the gently curving bridge toward the ocean that fills the entire field of vision is exceptional. This is a must-stop spot as a highlight of the southern Okinawa driving course.

Photo Spot

This is a spot with a spectacular view that has become a hot topic on SNS. Especially in the morning when the light is good, the sea looks most beautiful.

Cautions

Parking is prohibited on the bridge. The entrance to the observatory must be entered from a small side road on the mountain side (Prefectural Route 86 side). There is no parking lot, restrooms, or vending machines. There is a sidewalk, so it is possible to walk around on foot.

Access

• Approximately 50 minutes from Naha Airport by car.
• Since public transportation is scarce, use of a rental car is recommended.
