Bangna Park
Nature #6 of 8 in this area

Bangna Park

One of the largest comprehensive parks in Ishigaki Island, located in the central part of Ishigaki Island, spreading around 230m high Banna-dake (Mt. Banna). It is one of the best nature parks in Ishigaki Island with an observatory overlooking the emerald green sea, a children's playground, a world insect museum, and a starry sky observatory where you can get in touch with nature. The view from Banna Skyline is spectacular.

What is Banna Park?

Banna Park is one of the largest prefectural parks in Okinawa Prefecture, located in the area of 230-meter-high Banna-dake (Mt. Banna) in the center of Ishigaki Island. There are observatories, playgrounds, and nature observation zones scattered along the "Banna Skyline" that runs along the top of the mountain, and it is a popular spot in Ishigaki Island where you can enjoy the ocean and forest at the same time.

Composed of 5 zones

The park is divided into 5 zones, "A Zone (Fureai Kodomo Hiroba)", "B Zone (Kodomo no Hiroba)", "C Zone (Forest Walking Area)", "D Zone (Ishigakijima Fureai Kodomo Mura)", and "E Zone (Nature Observation Area)", so you can choose how to play according to your purpose.

Observatory overlooking the sea

There are several observation decks along the Banna Skyline that can be used freely 24 hours a day. From the "Observatory for Emerald Sea View," you can see the emerald green sea that stretches to the north of Ishigaki Island, and even Iriomote Island and Taketomi Island on a clear day.

Star gazing spot

Ishigaki Island is one of the best stargazing spots in Japan, which was recognized as a "starry sky protected area" in 2018. At the observatory in Banna Park, you can enjoy the star-filled sky with the naked eye.

Insectarium of the World

Open 10:00-17:00 (last admission 16:30), closed every Thursday. Specimens and living organisms of rare insects from around the world are on display and can be enjoyed even on rainy days.
